Nicolas Peduzzi’s ON THE EDGE at ACID Cannes 2023
We are thrilled to be returning to the dazzling atmosphere of Cannes and the Marché du Film and especially honored to present the moving ON THE EDGE by Nicolas Peduzzi in the ACID Cannes selection this year!
Nicolas Peduzzi returns to ACID (his previous film Ghost Song was selected in 2020) with his latest film after it had its World Premiere at CPH:DOX where it received Special Mention from the Jury. The ACID program, showcasing 9 feature films, selected by members of the association and screened parallel to the Cannes Film Festival since 1993, is taking place from May 17th until May 26th this year.
“Nicolas Peduzzi’s film État limite is a report on a sick society that is eaten away from the inside by the voracity of its free market economy. This is a society which destroys both minds and bodies and perverts its own means of healing itself. Every hour of the day and of the night, Jamal Abdel Kader, the only psychiatrist of an emergency department, paces the corridors of the Beaujon hospital as if he were pacing the decks of a ship in disarray. And Peduzzi’s camera is always right behind on his heels. In this department, there are fewer and fewer financial resources and more and more human suffering. And yet, Jamal Abdel Kader needs to muster enough energy to keep his head up, be all ears, protect and possibly heal his patients. Nicolas Peduzzi films this doctor as he would a super hero. His movie makes us keenly aware that everything only holds together thanks to the sacrificial dedication of the doctors and nurses. But for how long ?”
