BYE BYE TIBERIAS and MARCHING IN THE DARK selected for European Film Awards 2024
We are thrilled to announce that two of our films, BYE BYE TIBERIAS by Lina Soualem and MARCHING IN THE DARK by Kinshuk Surjan, have been chosen as part of the prestigious Documentary Film Selection for the 2024 European Film Awards!
The two films are among 12 feature-length documentaries recommended to the members of the European Film Academy for a nomination in the Documentary category at the 37th edition of the European Film Awards. The selection, announced August 21 by the European Film Academy, honors “the greatest achievements in European cinema.”
BYE BYE TIBERIAS is a powerful tribute to director Lina Soualem’s mother, Hiam Abbass, and the Palestinian women in their family. Her sophomore feature documentary has been on an impressive run since its World Premiere at Giornate degli Autori 2023 in the 80th Venice International Film Festival, with over 60 international festival selections and 18 awards to date.
MARCHING IN THE DARK tells the story of a young widow navigating India’s farmer suicide crisis. Shunned by cultural traditions, she finds strength and joy in community with others like her, emerging as a powerful voice of resilience. The latest recognition for the film comes on the heels of its World Premiere at CPH:DOX, where it earned a Special Mention in the HUMAN:RIGHTS Competition. It has since screened at Hot Docs, Docville, Dokufest, and Biografilm, where it won both the Audience Award and the Young Critics Award.
Members of the European Film Academy are invited to watch and vote on the nominations which will be made public on November 5th. The award ceremony is going to take place in Lucerne on December 7th.
The inclusion in the European Film Awards’ documentary selection is a significant milestone, marking these films as some of the year’s most impactful European works. This recognition highlights the powerful storytelling and far-reaching relevance of both projects, and we are proud to represent them.
Stay tuned as the journey towards the 2024 European Film Awards continues!
